At Bairnsdale Golf Club our ambition is to not only develop junior golf at our club but also throughout the East Gippsland region; we recognise junior golf is the future of golf.
It is not about how good you are,it is about being involved in the game of golf and enjoying the experience, learning to taking command of oneself in the discipline of learning new skills both mentally and physically, and developing as an individual with skills you can be proud of that will last a life time.
The following is a brief of our development stages with measurable results and targets for juniors to achieve with each stage being progressive in learning every aspect of the game of golf.
Our junior programs are supervised and conducted by our Club Professional Wayne Thomas and assisted by some of our Junior Committee Peter Stubbs and Sam Logan. Parents are also encouraged to get involved with the kids development, they may just learn some new skills for themselves.
We run our junior golf development programs Saturday mornings during school term from 9am to 10.30am and is available to both boys and girls ages 5 to 16 with a cost of $25 per child per term that includes -
A Junior Development Squad jacket
Range balls during the clinic
All necessary equipment including clubs if required
Supervised instruction
Course usage where applicable
We will also be conducting one day development programs during each school term holiday break.

STAGE 1 BEGINNERS LICENCE
Fundamental swing basics
Short game development
Basic health and fitness
Begin to develop golf course etiquette and understanding the game
Progress to short course and team competitions
Complete basic skills tests, achieve beginners licence and progress to next stage
STAGE 2 SHORT COURSE LICENCE
Advance on swing and short game skills
Golf etiquette and general course behaviour
Supervised basic course management and group play
Course care and pace of play
7 holes adult supervised short course
7 holes short course scoring target of 49 or better to progress to next stage
STAGE 3 9 HOLES LICENCE
Continuing swing and short game skills development
Full 9 holes short course loosely supervised competition play
Advanced etiquette and on course behaviour
Advanced course management and group play
Rules of golf and pace of play
Scoring target of 54 for boys and 59 for girls to successfully complete stage 3
STAGE 4 GOLF AUSTRALIA HANDICAP LICENCE
On successful completion of stage 3 junior golfers will be nominated by the Bairnsdale GC Junior Golf Committee for Junior Membership at Bairnsdale GC with the opportunity to achieve their GA handicap and become eligible to compete in club level competitions. This handicap also allows junior golfers to play and compete at any golf club competition.
Junior golfers would be inducted into the club and given a full understanding of the following -
Club committee and structures
Club house facilities and etiquette
Yearly program of events including club competition days
Different types of competition
Pro-Shop services
Supervised time sheet bookings through the Pro-Shop
Possibility to be invited to join Bairnsdale GC pennant squad
STAGE 5 ADVANCED JUNIOR GOLF DEVELOPMENT
Advanced swing and shot making techniques
Advanced course management with on course coaching
Advanced health, nutrition, flexibility and strength conditioning according to individual needs
Golf Victoria and Golf Australia tournament awareness and the possibility of funding and support in travelling
to away events
